On August 23, 2014, HIPS team visited the city of Baidoa to kick off a six city research project titled “National Dialogue on Federalism and Natural Resources.” The objective of the project is to support national reconciliation and a peaceful process of state-building by harnessing and amplifying local voices on decentralization options. On 24 August 2014 Al-Jazeera broadcast an edition of Inside Story, hosted by Sami Zeidan, on the on-going disarmament of militias in Somalia. The director of the Heritage Institute Abdi Aynte joined Jamal Osman of the UK based Channel 4 and Ridwaan Haji Abdiwali, the Somali government spokesman and adviser to the Somali Prime Minister.
On 3 August 2014, HIPS organized a Special Forum for Ideas with the Prime Minister of Somalia Hon. Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed. Discussions centered on the achievements, challenges, and way forward for premier Abdiweli’s government, seven months after its formation.
Over one hundred citizens, including civil society leaders, academics, former senior officials, media personalities, representatives of women and youth groups, and members of the business community participated in the Forum.
