Lead Researchers

Maimuna Mohamud is a researcher with HIPS. She holds a MSc in Refugees and Forced Migration Studies from the University of Oxford, and a MA in Global Gender Studies and a BA in Political Science both from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Sahro Ahmed Koshin is a consultant with HIPS. Sahro holds a double MA degrees in Cultural Anthropology (Leiden University) and Development Studies (Radboud University), respectively. She is the founder of the Puntland Women Writers Association (PWWA) based in Garowe where she runs diverse literary activities, and encourages women and young girls to express themselves through poetry and art.

Cindy Horst (PhD) is a Research Professor in Migration and Refugee Studies at PRIO. She is an anthropologist by training and has been focusing on Somalia and Somali refugees since 1995; through research on inter alia transnationalism, humanitarianism and active citizenship.

Laura Hammond (PhD) is Senior Lecturer and Head of the Development Studies Department at SOAS, University of London. She has worked in Somalia since 1998, and in the Horn of Africa since 1993, researching and publishing on issues related to migration, diaspora, local governance, livelihood security and conflict.
